Open Streets goes to people with ‘Bus Bantu Bus’!

It is truly exciting to have various goverment agencies work together towards a common cause! Open Streets-Bengaluru on 13.09.2015 (Sunday) went to HSR with ‘Bus Bantu Bus’, a street play organised for public awareness by BMTC. In spite of capricious rains the good folks of HSR came out on to the streets and encouraged the initiative.

Here are some pictures from the day.

  1. As a resident of the layout, I want to say ‘thank you’ to the Bangalore Police and all the other institutions and individuals who conceived of and let us experience a wonderful day yesterday. The Open Streets initiative showed clearly how people’s voluntary spirit can be channelised for good causes, without coercion. A bandh would have also seen vehicle-free streets, but the coercion in the ambience would have made the atmosphere so tense. Open Streets in HSR Layout yesterday were full of life and joy. There was a family of three with husband and wife on cycles, and the husband carrying his infant child; an elderly couple and their daughter were out for a walk, munching on ice cream cones … many were playing football and one girl from a construction worker’s home was playing with her baby sister in the middle of the road, having a whale of a time pushing around the child on an improvised perambulator, made with odds and ends by a creative mind in her house. It was a wonderful day and may the tribe increase.
